Ponies of the Highlands

There aren't many moments as suprising as being at nearly 6000' feet elevation, turning a corner, and finding a group of wild ponies galloping in the sunlight. Endemic to the Greyson Highlands of Virginia, these ponies have a controlled population but roam completely free and unihibited. A truly unforgettable moment, these two young ponies look shyly towards my camera, and I captured one of my favorite moments and memories on the Appalachian Trail.
